India Awaits: Our little star !

This week Jack was selected to play football (soccer) for the Under 11 Stonehill team against 2 other International Schools here in Bangalore. It was quite special given the boys up for selection were from his class and the 2 above - only he and another boy from his age were chosen !! The rest were from 2 years above.

There has been a lot of excitement amongst the kids and football - as Stonehill are sending 2 Under 11 (boys and girls) and Under 13 teams to Phuket in November for an International tournament. So, all the kids are SUPER excited and keen to get chosen. I think some of the girls think its an opportunity to lie on the beach and get their hair braided but for the boys, its all FOOTBALL. We have had numerous family discussions on whether Jack should be allowed to be up for selection at all, and if so, that Mum would have to go to ! He is only 8 and will be just 9 when the tournament is on.

Anyway, I headed to school to watch the Bangalore tournament and see if he 'has what it takes' to be given the opportunity to try out. I was super impressed with the boys team, they were such a good group of boys and they supported each other really well - and had talent to boot ! Jack and another little boy Matthias were the youngest and they definitely held their own (one biased mum's opinion!)

They won both their round games, to make it into the final against the Canadian International School - who beat Stonehill 4 nil last year !! They boys played really well and ended up winners 3-1 - oh, and the celebrations were worthy of Premier League status.

After the medals were handed out, I had the PE teacher and coach asking if Jack was allowed to go to Phuket - I had the signed form in my bag but was still very hesitant to hand it over. Wow, those kids do a good job at convincing - so it looks like he might be going to Thailand in November for football. What a little star ! Watch this space.......

I was definitely proud and took lots of photos to prove it.
