Dan Murphys it is not !!

I am sure it comes as quite a shock to you (not really but I can only try) that Mike and I like a drink or two, on the 'odd' occasion.  So finding reliable alcohol sources in Bangalore has been quite a task for me.  Sadly with very little luck.

Last weekend, in my depressed state from my parents leaving I decided to get my dried fruiting soaking for the Christmas Cake and Pudding, but alas, I had no Bunderberg Rum or Brandy.  A good friend came to the rescue on the Rum, and Mike decided to 'try' a bottle shop at our local mall. We didn't have a driver that day but they said they delivered so he gave them a buzz and 20 minutes later a bottle of French Brandy was on the doorstep.  Mike was highly impressed - that was his first mistake!!

We are having Christmas drinks at our house next Friday, so Mike decided to order some beer and wine today from the same place.  He had such high hopes for Madhuloka - but Dan Murphy's have no competition!

He ordered he following:

2 cartons of Kingfisher Ultra (actually, in India, that is 48 bottles……)
6 bottles of Sav Blanc
6 bottles of Cab Sav
and there was a question over the ability to get some Tonic water.

He placed the order online, and 10 minutes later his mobile rang.  After an exasperating discussion with an Indian man about him not having the stock and not sure when he could get it, Mike was still none the wiser.  Even though all stock was 'available' online…… and there is no mention of stock limitations etc.  All he wanted was a yes/no answer to 'will the wine be delivered by Friday?'  The response was 'sure' - but of course, we know 'sure' comes along with its own special head wobble !!  We are still not sure about the Tonic water…….  I may be drinking straight Gin.

So, five minutes later his mobile rings again. This time it is to find out if half of the wine could be delivered today ?  He had found some stock at another store and a man on a scooter will deliver within the hour - perfect !!   Of course, all cash purchases.  The man arrived on his scooter and then wanted an extra 5 rupees for the plastic bag.  Mike nearly died !!

An hour later, another man arrived on a scooter with 2 'boxes' between his feet…. only in India.  Below is what arrived……. and there was only 38 bottles of Kingfisher Ultra.  As if Mike would order 38 bottles,  they really have no idea here, and we have 'no idea' if we will ever get any red wine !!

Sadly, this is only one of our many 'alcohol adventures' in Bangalore.

This was the box that arrived

and this was inside…...

This was another Box of Beer

And inside, was not Heineken but Kingfisher…..
