I like to go a wandering

Sunday mornings are relatively quiet in our neck of the woods - apart from a few Royal Enfield motorcycles warming up for trip outside the PM gates.  However, just outside those gates it is always a hive of activity in the local villages.  On Sunday Max and I grabbed the camera and went for a walk in the early morning light and trampled through some mud for a bit of fun.  (some pre-monsoon rain the night before helped with the mud)

Max and I headed out to the local village which is busy on a Sunday morning with people collecting water, creating rangolis, washing clothes on rocks, milking the cows etc.  We had quite the struggle walking along the paths in the mud, and we then came across a family pulling suitcases along the same road - it was quite the sight.

The ladies collecting water always stop, smile and say good morning, and if they happen to have any of their children with them they ask for photos and if we would shake their hands.  Max still finds this all a bit weird but he at least he now smiles and says 'hello'.

Further along and we found many of the villagers heading away from the village with a small bucket of water in hand.  Max was quite curious as to where they were going and it wasn't long before he found out what was going on.  They head away, not far, into a field or even the edge of the lake, and then squat and do their 'business'. Max watched quite closely to see them use the leaves and dirt to 'wipe' and then the water to 'clean up'.  Max was amazed, horrified and entertained all at once.

We had a few stray dogs following us on Sunday and that always makes me nervous but I often find that the local people help us out by yelling at them and standing between them and us. I would still never trust them but I am probably more confident in their presence now that I have learned the correct type of 'grunt/yell' that makes them back off.

Before we went back home, Max was keen to go to the 'local butcher'.  The goats and chickens have a fairly dire life up until this point and the 'waiting' must be even worse.  For some reason Max is fascinated by the process and is not even squeamish about the goats heads and hocks on the crate outside.

An hour later and we are back in the serenity of Palm Meadows.  It is such an adventure, you just never know what you may come across.
