A headline in todays paper was "Train delay saves youth tied to tracks in M'rashtra". I was intrigued , so I read on - below is an extract from the article.
Seriously, the stories I read daily are just bonkers. If you want a good read check out the Deccan Herald website.... cracks me up every morning over breakfast. (http://www.deccanherald.com)
A youth, tied up and left to die on railway tracks in a Maharashtra town, escaped death as the train supposed to run him over was delayed by 10 minutes.
Pradip Yadav (20), was the victim of a murder conspiracy. His cousins tried to kill him by tying him up on the railway track near Boisar, an industrial town in the district, on October 5. However, the train did not come as per schedule and gave Yadav time to scream for help, said the investigating officer of Boisar police station Vishwas Patil.“Fortunately for Yadav, local villagers heard his cries and rushed to help him, untied him and took him to a local nursing home for treatment. Later, he called from the nursing home and we went there to record his complaint of the attempt to kill him on the railway tracks,” Patil said.
Patil and his team managed to nab two of the five accused on Tuesday.
“We have arrested two cousins, Dinesh Yadav and Chandrabali Yadav, and are on the lookout for the other three as well as their vehicle,” Patil said.
The motive behind the attempt to kill Yadav, who was working as a waiter in Hotel Sarovar in Boisar, is an old family dispute over ancestral land in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh.
According to Patil, the accused have been charged for rioting, kidnapping and attempt to murder.
As bizarre as the above story may seem, these type of incidents are written about every day here, and it is crazy to wake up to. The frequent term used is to describe these lucky escapes is 'providential escape' . So when a family's car leaves the road, plunges into a lake and some of the members survive, that is a providential escape. When people survive touching uncovered wires left on the ground, that is a providential escape. When you survive the derailment of your train, that is a providential escape. When a child falls in a boiling pot of sambar and survives with just 3rd degree burns, that is a providential escape.
